FAQs

1. Is it true that ALM is closing its regional commercial real estate magazines?

Yes. Based on economic conditions, reader feedback and market constraints, we have decided to take our regional content in a new direction. The regional magazines themselves, in their printed form, will cease publication effective with their December issues.

2. Why are you shuttering them?

None of us is immune to the impact of this recession. While economic bad news seems to be waning, major questions remain regarding the state of the commercial real estate market, and the timing and extent of its recovery.

The downturn has also made it clear that real estate is no longer a regional industry. Regardless of location, our industry’s fortunes are now directly tied to the actions of Congress, the Fed, the Treasury and government bailouts and guarantees.

3. Does this mean that you will no longer be covering regional market news?

No. We recognize that regional market news remains important to our readers and we will introduce two new regional sections in Real Estate Forum in 2010. NewsFront will offer regular reporting and analyses of news impacting market conditions in major Northeast, Southeast, Midwest, Southwest, Western and Global markets.

In addition to NewsFront, every issue of Real Estate Forum will provide additional in-depth analysis of these markets through special sections entitled ForumLocal. These feature articles will focus on major real estate activities, key personalities and business drivers of each locale. Coverage will explore such areas as national employment trends, CMBS market recovery, inflation and federal fiscal deficits and imbalances. As the name implies, the focus will be on how these issues play out in local markets.

4. Will there be additional regional news on GlobeSt.com?

Yes. GlobeSt.com will be undergoing a major redesign, set to launch in 2010. The newly designed GlobeSt.com will continue to deliver major national and local news as well as coverage of a broader selection of cities around the country. In addition to the original reporting, aggregated content from national, regional and local dailies will round out the content and give our viewers every reason to stay longer on GlobeSt as a one-stop source for industry news.

5. What will happen to your regional readership?

A significant portion of our regional readership currently subscribes to Real Estate Forum. In 2010, Forum will be distributed to an expanded audience of more than 42,000 real estate professionals nationwide. This includes a vast majority of executive-level decision makers from our regional publications who do not already receive Real Estate Forum. All content, including advertisements, will also continue to receive added exposure via our digital editions—delivering over 100,000 page views per issue.

6. Will you be changing the publishing schedule for Real Estate Forum?

Yes. The frequency of Real Estate Forum will be expanded to 10X per year. The publishing schedule and detailed editorial calendar can be found here.

7. What will happen to 2010 advertising rates for Real Estate Forum?
